Moonline: AEG Reopens Emo's in Austin as a new 1,500 cap venue

AEG Presents will reopen the former Emo's location at 2015 E. Riverside Drive in Austin as Moonline, a reimagined 1,500-capacity live music club set to open in early 2027, the company confirmed this week in a joint announcement with Pollstar.

The relaunch puts AEG about a mile from its own 4,000-capacity United Heritage Hall, currently under construction at River Park — a second, larger room in the same East Riverside corridor. Together, the two venues mark a deliberate build-out of AEG's Austin footprint rather than a one-off booking: a mid-sized club feeding into a larger hall, both anchored in the same stretch of the city. Robin Phillips, AEG Presents' Vice President for the Southwest Region, is overseeing the expansion, positioning the promoter to control a fuller range of room sizes in a market it has historically shared with competitors.

Emo's itself remains a going concern under Live Nation at a separate Austin address, so Moonline isn't a reclaiming of the original room's identity so much as a new club borrowing a storied name and site in a market both major promoters are racing to build out. The choice of name is notable on its own: Emo's has real cultural weight in Austin's music scene, and AEG's decision to invoke it — while Live Nation continues operating a venue under the same name elsewhere in the city — sets up an interesting split of brand and legacy that Austin audiences will likely have opinions about.

No financial terms or construction budget were disclosed for Moonline. AEG has not said whether further Austin venues are planned beyond these two.
